Alanis Morissette JAGGED LITTLE PILL Album Cover

When an album has sold 33 million copies around the world, it’s so deeply embedded in the public consciousness that you wouldn’t think it’d be a shock to find that someone’s decided to turn it into a Broadway musical, but you may still want to brace yourself for this news: on November 3, 2019 at the Broadhurst Theater in New York City, theatergoers will be able to attend the first preview performance of JAGGED LITTLE PILL.

No, it is not coincidental that it shares its title with a certain 1995 LP: as the press release says, it’s “an exhilarating new musical inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette’s seminal album of the same name.”

Yes, it includes the lyrics and music penned by Morissette and Glen Ballard, but it also features an original story by Diablo Cody (Juno), movement direction and choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, musical supervision and arrangements by Tom Kitt (American Idiot), and – lest we forget – it’s directed by Diane Paulus, who performed the same duties on Waitress and Pippin.

Of course, if you’re an Alanis fan, then this may not be breaking news to you, since JAGGED LITTLE PILL actually ran for 10 weeks and 79 performances at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts last year, earning rapturous reviews from Variety, Buzzfeed, and NPR. But if this is indeed the first you’re hearing of the musical, then you may want to start counting your pennies and planning a trip to NYC, because even though the preview performances don’t kick off until November 3, the tickets go on sale on May 23 at 10 a.m. ET at Telecharge.com.

Whatever your plans may be, here’s the link to check out the album…as if you don’t already own it, we realize, but we’ve got a job to do, and we’re gonna do it!
