The Sunshine Band THE SOUND OF SUNSHINE Cover

45 years ago this month, Harry Casey – better known by two letters that, when spoken aloud, sound like his last name – and his Sunshine Band released their third studio album, an LP that’s notable for a number of reasons, not least of which is the fact that KC isn’t actually credited on the cover.

Despite how it was credited, THE SOUND OF SUNSHINE was still technically the second album released by KC and the Sunshine Band in 1975, but unlike its predecessor (the band’s self-titled LP), this album was an all-instrumental affair, which was ostensibly the reason why KC didn’t get a cover credit. That said, Harry Casey still played keyboards on the album, and he and regular collaborator Richard Finch served as co-producers, so even if it didn’t have KC, it had plenty of Casey.

Confused yet?

Just remember: Who’s on first, What’s on second, and Harry Casey’s on the Sunshine Band’s third.

Unlike KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND and PART 3, which came out in ’76, THE SOUND OF SUNSHINE did not go platinum. In fact, it didn’t even go gold, and the fact that it hit #131 on the Billboard 200 is a testament to just how popular the band’s self-titled album had been. But you’ll recognize a number of the songs, and if you enjoy dancing to funky disco tunes, then you’ll probably enjoy it just as much as the rest of the Sunshine Band’s catalog.
