African American Music Appreciation Month: John Coltrane

African-American Music Appreciation Month progresses ever onward, and Rhino is pleased to place the spotlight on one of the most iconic jazzmen of all time: John Coltrane. Although the man they called âTraneâ may have done time on a number of labels in his day, including Prestige, Blue Note, and Impulse, some of his most revered LPs were released during his time on Atlantic, including GIANT STEPS and MY FAVORITE THINGS. To celebrate his career, which ended when he was only 40 years old, weâre offering up not only Rhinoâs Coltrane playlist but also a six-pack of live performances from the late 1950s and early 1960s that give you a feel for what it was like to see this legend in concert.
1. âGiant Stepsâ
2. âLive in Germany with Stan Getz â 1960â
3. âMy Favorite Thingsâ
4. âLive in Belgium â 1965â
5. âAlabamaâ
6. âEvâry Time We Say Goodbyeâ
