Though the Bee Gees had already conquered the pop charts with such tremulous orchestrated ballads as “Massachusetts” and “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” the group became a global phenomenon on the strength of pulsating dance rhythms and falsetto vocals – a signature sound that crystallized on MAIN COURSE. Produced by Atlantic Records' R&B guru Arif Mardin, the 1975 set was recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami, then a hotbed of disco, and the Gibb brothers proved naturals at the style. Dancefloor anthems “Nights On Broadway” and “Jive Talkin'" both became Top 10 singles (ballad “Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)” was also a hit), pushing the collection to Gold sales status. Barry Gibb was born on this day in 1946, and we'll celebrate his 70th birthday with another serving of breakthrough Bee Gees album MAIN COURSE.
