Lionel Richie Video

This is the Lionel Richie video of “Hello” from February ’84. During the ‘80s there were many music videos being made in town and I would sometimes work on 3 or 4 a week. They’re fun to shoot on because unlike a movie, where you can’t make a click while they’re filming, in a video the music is blasting, so you can click all you want. It’s a great opportunity to take a lot of really good photos of any particular artist, and as a documentary photographer it was especially exciting. In this case it was Lionel Richie. This was done at a small college in L.A. It was taken in the art department and was of some girl who was sculpting a bust of Lionel Richie. I believe she was meant to be a blind girl who was making this thing. I wish those days were still happening where everybody had big budgets to do videos and they were being made left and right -- it’s kinda dropped out of sight now.
