Mike Nesmith and Frank Zappa
This shot of Mike Nesmith with Frank Zappa was interesting. The Monkees were each told they could have a favorite artist do a cameo. This one happened to be used in "Monkees Blow Their Minds" but it wasn't the whole episode, it was just a little cameo that followed it. And Mike Nesmith chose Zappa to be his favorite person. Micky chose Tim Buckley, and Davy Jones chose Charlie Smalls, who was a jazz musician, or arranger, or something. Peter wanted Pete Seeger, but they couldn't get him; he never did get anybody, he got left out of that. This picture shows Zappa dressed like Nesmith sitting in his chair, and Nesmith dressed like Zappa, so he had a long-haired wig on. The crew was like a family of people and everybody was always kidding each other, so one of the crew probably said something like "Give us a kiss, baby" or something and Mike gave 'em the finger.
