Hannah and Hartman

This is Darryl Hannah and Phil Hartman. Gosh, that would've been sometime in the late '70s/early '80s, somewhere in there. Phil Hartman worked for his brother John Hartman, who was a manager; he managed CSN, Poco, and America. He called me one day and said "I have this young actress who needs some head shots, 'cause she wants to get into the movies." I went down to the office at Crossroads Of The World on Sunset and I met Darryl Hannah and we spent the afternoon taking photos around there; this is the steps going up to the office. And I was looking through the lens concentrating on her and her lovely blond hair, and suddenly into the frame comes this outrageous character with a big red wig and mirror sunglasses and a brush in his hand pretending to be a gay English hairdresser. He was prancing about and making us all crack up -- it was Phil Hartman before he got into comedy, certainly years before Saturday Night Live. In fact, he was doing graphic arts for his brother, and at this point we were working together on America's Harbor album. He did the cover of that, and then he did a Poco album, and several other things. He just did this on the spur of the moment; it was in his blood, way back then.
