Jimi Hendrix at The Hollywood Bowl
That was '68 and Jimi Hendrix was opening for The Mamas & Papas at The Hollywood Bowl. And that was in the dressing room before the show started, before anyone had gone out there; they were sitting in there on the couch, chewin' the fat, doing the secret things they did back there in the dressing room. He was sitting back there talking to Michelle and Cass -- Mama Cass and Michelle Phillips. The three of them were sitting on the couch talking and whispering and laughing and stuff. I was just squatting on the floor, trying to be invisible. I was good friends with The Mamas & Papas, so I was OK to be there, but I had to be very, you know, discreet, just kind of sitting there clicking quietly.
