The Lovin’ Spoonful

This picture was taken in New Orleans in front of a statue of some President on a horse. I was on the road with The Lovin’ Spoonful in the summer of ’66. One of my best friends, Erik Jacobsen, was their record producer, and this was the first year I was really taking pictures. He said “if you wanna learn to be a photographer, come to New York and spend the summer shooting these guys ’cause we need a lot of pictures of ’em and we’ll pay for all your expenses.” So that’s what I was doing with this picture here. They never would agree to pose in a group -- even though I was working for them -- so that’s a rare group shot of The Lovin’ Spoonful behaving themselves!
