George Duke
George Duke was managed by Herbie Cohen, who also managed my group, The Modern Folk Quartet (he did Zappa, Tom Waits, and Linda Ronstadt as well). One day he asked me to do a cover for George. We went to some big parking lot in downtown L.A. and had a moving van come in and set up all these pianos. It was a more involved photo shoot than I like to do. I had to hire an assistant and use lights -- even outdoors, which was not my cup of tea -- but it turned out nicely. A very warm, lovable guy.
