Randy Newman

This was Randy Newman when he played his first concert, which was at The Lion's Share in San Anselmo in 1969. My friend Erik Jacobsen (The Lovin' Spoonful producer) was a personal friend of Randy's, and I was up there at Eric's house when he said "Come on, I'm gonna go see my friend Randy." Apparently Eric had talked him into playing live -- he was a little too shy or inexperienced to play live; he was more of a composer in his living room. But Eric had helped talk him into doing this, so we all went over to give him moral support, and it was really great. So I just happened to be there the first time he ever played live in front of people.
