| ![]() The Original WoodstockThis one is Woodstock '69; Michael Lang and Chip Monk standing in the middle of the alfalfa field where they are building the stage. Of course the big story there was that they had started building the stage in another location and the town council had kicked 'em out. And so they had to quickly catch up and build a stage in the new location, Yasgur's farm. They didn't quite finish building the stage and they certainly didn't finish building the fences, so it became a free festival, and ten times the number of people showed up than they expected! Michael Lang was the producer, and Chip Monk was the lighting and stage manager, and kinda helped build the whole stage. He became the voice of Woodstock that gave all those announcements about "the bad acid" and was a good friend of mine from the old folk days. Chip's the one who got me hired by Michael Lang to shoot this, and I spent two weeks before the crowd showed up shooting the building of the stage. ::next |
