During the ’60s, Brooklyn-born Woody Allen just about ruled stand-up comedy. In the ’70s he, of course, emerged as one of the most celebrated filmmakers of our time and did little stand-up, which only boosted demand for his classic onstage routines. Finally, Standup Comic, the much-sought-after 1979 Casablanca compilation, makes its CD debut. Recorded from 1964-1968, these recordings catch Allen at his wry, self-deprecating best, exploring themes of his unhappy childhood and his swingin’ ’60s bachelor lifestyle.
