INXS emerged from Sydney, Australia, with their first album in 1980. Already hugely popular in their homeland, their first U.S. single, “The One Thing,” brought them immediate attention stateside, climbing into the Top 30 while the video was a hit on MTV. The band broke through in the U.S. with their 1985 release Listen Like Thieves, which climbed to #11 on the charts, thanks to the Top 5 single, “What You Need.” Their next record, Kick, achieved multi-platinum status in the U.S. and featured four Top-10 singles. In the next decade INXS staked their claim as one of the world's most popular bands, enjoying continuous success culminating in 30 million record sales worldwide. The band had six consecutive Top-10 singles in the U.S. from Kick and X, a feat still unmatched by any other Australian band.

Since the death of Michael Hutchence in November 1997, the group's members have concentrated on individual projects. Andrew, Tim and Jon Farriss, Kirk Pengilly, and Garry Gary Beers are in constant demand as writers, producers, and musicians. In June 1999 they teamed up again to open Sydney's Olympic Stadium with Terence Trent D'Arby as guest vocalist. Since then the band has enlisted various guest singers to play a handful of shows, including the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Olympic Summer Games.
