Now Available: Black Sabbath, SUPERSONIC YEARS

Remember the old Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups slogan about “two great tastes that taste great together”? Well, the love affair between chocolate and peanut butter might’ve been one for the ages, but trying to take Black Sabbath songs and put them onto 7” singles… Yeah, that was a bit more like The Odd Couple.

In fact, despite the fact that the band managed to find considerable success with their singles, they never saw it as a driving force of their existence. Indeed, as Record Mirror reported in November 1970, “Sabbath have decided to place a 'ban' on singles in the future. Their hit, 'Paranoid,' as far as they are concerned is their first and last single. They will also oppose any attempt to draw singles material from future albums."

Thankfully, that moratorium didn’t last, as we’re happy to prove with the release of SUPERSONIC YEARS – THE SEVENTIES SINGLES BOX SET.

The limited-edition set, which arrived in stores today, offers 10 7” singles stretching from 1970 to 1978, each of which is housed in unique color picture sleeves from around the world which are either ultra-rare or exclusive to the box set. All of the songs have been remastered by engineer Andy Pearce, and the set includes five single edits which many fans may never have heard before, given their rarity. There’s also a booklet featuring new liner notes that detail the rarities and puts them in the proper historical context.
