Love, FOREVER CHANGES: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

The music scene in the 1960s was a very confusing time, particularly when it came to band names, but it also could be very beneficial in terms of promo campaigns. For instance, when The Beatles released “All You Need Is Love,” Arthur Lee and his crew could very well have said, “That’s right: all you need is us!” And there’s a legitimate argument to be made about that suggestion, especially when you consider that Love’s seminal album FOREVER CHANGES is so acclaimed that it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008 and added to the National Recording Registry in 2012.

If your music collection needs Love, then you’re in luck: on April 6, Rhino is celebrating FOREVER CHANGES by releasing a 50th anniversary edition. Yes, we know, the album itself actually came out in 1967, but these things take time, and it’s done now, so let’s just get to talking about the important bit: the music.

FOREVER CHANGES: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION is a 4-CD set which also includes a DVD as well as an LP, all of which is housed in a 12x12 hardbound book featuring a new essay and track-by-track notes by music historian Ted Olsen. In addition to featuring the CD debut of a remastered version by original co-producer and engineer Bruce Botnick, it also features the first-ever release of the mono version of the album on CD. Beyond that, there are also alternate mixes of the album and a selection of rare and previously-unreleased tracks. As for the DVD, that houses a 24/96 stereo mix of the album as well as the rare promotional video for “Your Mind And We Belong Together,” directed by Elektra producer Mark Abramson.
