Happy 20th: Barenaked Ladies, STUNT

20 years ago this week – on July 7, to be precise – Barenaked Ladies released their fourth studio album, otherwise known as the LP which provided them with their biggest hit single to date.

Produced by the band with the assistance of David Leonard and Susan Rogers, STUNT arrived on the heels of the band’s concert album, ROCK SPECTACLE, which helped raise BNL’s profile in America with its single, a live version of “Brian Wilson.” As such, the band was primed and ready for a major breakthrough in the Us, and they got it when they released STUNT’s first single, “One Week,” which blew the roof off radio stations throughout the country and not only topped the Billboard Hot 100 but also went on to sell 5 million copies. The album also spawned three additional Modern Rock hits – “It’s All Been Done,” “Alcohol,” and “Told You So” – as well as an Adult Top 40 hit with the ballad “Call and Answer.”

In celebration of STUNT’s 20th anniversary, Rhino will be releasing an expanded edition of the album, and it’s chock full of BNL awesomeness, including not only a CD featuring the original album and several bonus tracks but also DVDs containing the band’s Barenaked in America documentary and the Stunt Tour concert. We’ll also be releasing the album as a double-LP set, and while that doesn’t include everything from the CD set, it does contain a couple of the aforementioned bonus tracks.
