I first heard the droning, almost supernatural blues, of Junior Kimbrough back in the late 90s via a Fat Possum Records sampler. This was largely "pre-Internet," and by that I mean there was no Google or search engines as we know them today. As such, Kimbrough's music was enveloped in a shroud of mystery. The world has since changed, the details of Kimbrough's life and his music are now only but a click away. But when I hear these songs, they still sound the way they did in that languid, humid summer of 1998. Droning blues from Mississippi, at times surreal in their delivery.
